Today is a crazy day for the bookish community, specially for those who love fairytales or fairytale retellings.
You have probably seen this everywhere, but Marissa Meyer fans are super excited with the news: there’s finally a cover for Heartless, the first Marissa Meyer’s standalone.
Well, now, let’s appreciate this wonderful cover (wonderful, Wonderland… ahahahh):
Simple, but GORGEOUS! I love how dark it is! And then the red looks stunning! Adn the title! I love the title’s font, and the color.
There are some people that are disappointed with the cover, but I love it.
As you can see, the cover was revealed by Entertainment Weekly, and they also posted an excerpt of Heartless. If you want to read it, just click here.
I am looking forward for this novel, although I haven’t read The Lunar Chronicles series. Yet. However, I have ordered Cinder (Cinderella‘s retelling) and Scarlet (Red Riding Hood‘s retelling) and I cannot wait to have them and read them!
Anyway, here’s more information about Heartless: Marissa Meyer’s new book will be released on November 8th 2016 (my father’s birthday! Okay, dad, you are the one who will give gifts. To me. Ahahahahah) and it’s a prequel to Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll. In Heartless, we will see why the Queen of Hearts became, well, Queen of Hearts! Of course that this is Marissa Meyer’s idea and, of course, it’s going to be amazing because she is known for writing amazing retellings of wonderful fairytales (or kid’s stories, if you prefer). Damn, I REALLY WANT THE LUNAR CHRONICLES SERIES NOW!
Also, here’s the Goodreads synopsis:
Long before she was the terror of Wonderland — the infamous Queen of Hearts — she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love.
Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the yet-unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend and supply the Kingdom of Hearts with delectable pastries and confections. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next Queen.
At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the king’s marriage proposal, she meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship.
Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
After reading all of this, who is excited???
