Hello, bookish people! I hope you had (or having) a wonderful Friday! I’m sorry that I didn’t post this yesterday, but it was already a little bit late here in Portugal and I thought it would be better if I posted this on the next day. So, here are the books I ordered in March and that have finally arrived!
That cover is sooooooooooooo beautiful! Goddamnit, I’m not a huge fan of pink ( I mean, I like it, but nah), but that dress looks gorgeous and that girl is pretty! Even though she looks like she is suffering a lot if you turn the book upside down.
I decided to order this book because many people have been talking about this trilogy, The Winner’s Trilogy, since it has come to an end with The Winner’s Kiss. When I read the synopsis, I thought it seemed like a cool story, and then I read some reviews and…. Now I have it!
Here the Goodreads synopsis:
“Winning what you want may cost you everything you love…
As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.
One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.
But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.
Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.”
This first book has 4.04 stars on Goodreads, but many people said that it got even better in the second and third books! The second one, The Winner’s Crime, has 4.21 stars, and The Winner’s Kiss has, for now, 4.46! WOW!
The other book I got is…. A Darker Shade of Magic, by V.E. Schwab (also known as Victoria Schwab because of her YA novels). This is the first book Shades of Magic series.
There are so many people that don’t like this UK edition, but I really love it! The title, the colors… OMG!
Just like The Winner’s Curse, I decided to buy this one because everyone on Instagram was talking about how awesome A Gathering of Shadows, the second book of Shades of Magic, was! So, of course, when I read the words “magic” and “paralel worlds”, I knew I had to buy it.
Here’s the Goodreads synopsis:
“Kell is one of the last Antari, a rare magician who can travel between parallel worlds: hopping from Grey London — dirty, boring, lacking magic, and ruled by mad King George — to Red London — where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire — to White London — ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne, where people fight to control magic, and the magic fights back — and back, but never Black London, because traveling to Black London is forbidden and no one speaks of it now.
Officially, Kell is the personal ambassador and adopted Prince of Red London, carrying the monthly correspondences between the royals of each London. Unofficially, Kell smuggles for those willing to pay for even a glimpse of a world they’ll never see, and it is this dangerous hobby that sets him up for accidental treason. Fleeing into Grey London, Kell runs afoul of Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She robs him, saves him from a dangerous enemy, then forces him to take her with him for her proper adventure.
But perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save both his London and the others, Kell and Lila will first need to stay alive — a feat trickier than they hoped”.
This first book has 4.04 stars on Goodreads, while its sequel has 4.43! The author has already announced the title of the third book: A Conjuring of Light.
Well, that’s it for today! I hope I post something tomorrow! Have you been getting any bookmail lately?
